study at the University of Maryland in math--quit and went to work.
Profession: Computer Programmer,
Analyst, System Engineer, and Consultant. IBM, seven years; the US House of Representatives, seven years; and my name-changing
third employer, MITRE/Mitretek/Noblis, for the last 26 years.
Married: Tülin Menteşe
of Izmir, Turkey. She teaches philosophy, religion, women's studies, Africana studies, and peace studies at
our Montgomery County Community College.
Children: Daphne, graduated from law school and
admitted to the Maryland Bar 2007. Kerem, finished first year of law school 2007. Idil, graduated college 2006.
Resided: Bethesda, Maryland for the last 31 years. Our summer home for the last ten years
is on the Aegean Sea near Tülin's hometown of Izmir, Turkey.
Contacts: I kept
up with seeing Richard Ludueña when he came to DC for professional meetings. More recently, Richard and Marc
Kessler both came to DC, then Marc and his wife after that.
Best Memories: Math class (sorry!), chess club,
cross country running.
Worst Memories: Being shy.
Travels, Vacations, Hobbies, Publications,
Etc.: We travel to Turkey every summer, and as often as possible take side trips along the way, and January vacations.
In 1988-89, we lived in Taipei, Taiwan for a year and a half, and visited most of the Asian rim countries on vacations.
Other: I love reading--from Jane Austin to James Joyce. We attend a lot of theater. Sometimes
I bike-commute to work.
