An explanation of the pictures and a brief bio: My daughter Laura Alison (named
after my Dad) with Victorian Golden Rose (better known as Rilly) with the Blue Ribbon.
Laura is a
passionate animal person who has spent summers at Busch Gardens--the Reptile House, and worked at a Horse Retirement
Farm. She just graduated from Delaware Valley College where she bred yellow carpet pythons in her dorm room.
She was a member of their Equestrian (sci) Team which made national finals and this June will start working
for Pfizer. Basically, her involvement with animals doesn't relate to the vast amount of cement she
grew up with in Brooklyn. From gerbils, to hedge hogs, to birds, to dogs, to turltes, to snakes, to horses to.......perhaps
at this point she requires her own zoo!!!!
Jane Bassewitz (wife) is shown during a summer vacation in Maine with Laura and our Welsh terrier, Woodrow, who will be 14 in July.
Leo, our black mini schnauzer earned his
championship in Medina, Ohio. His formal registered name is: Wynwood Brooklyn Dodger. Living
in the historic Park Slope area of Brooklyn, we can now say that a second championship has been won by a Brooklyn
Dodger since the 1955 World Series!!
Yes, I did make it to Carnegie Hall, and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, London, Tokyo, Lawton,Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Ann Arbor, Lawrence etc.
After graduating from Juilliard, I received my Ph.D. from NYU so I was prepared for the teaching positon which
never occurred.
I recorded numerous albums, mostly chamber music as well as radio and TV appearances. I
hosted a program on WQXR, the classical station of the NY Times.
While recovering my back operaton (a condition
which has plagued me even while I was at Milne) I did music for the Beanie Babies and even had a chance to play
the garden hose. Last year, I had another relapse when I fractured my back.
As my performance career
had to be curtailed I got involved with the production and management side of the arts. I was president of the internaitonal publishing company Boosey & Hawkes (Copland, Bernstein among others), was chairman of the chamber
music panel for the National Endowment for the Arts and started a digial media company, Digital Force which is
located in NYC.
At Digital Force, I produced CDs for the National Symphony, Chamber Music Soceity of Lincoln
Center, University of Georgia Redcoat Band, Yale, Orchestra of St. Luke's, RCA, Sony and many interacrtive CD-ROMs
and DVDs in the healthcare field including public service campaigns--such as Autism Awareness.
My
mother just celebrated her 95th birthday and has moved from Slingerlands to Saratoga.
Jane and I live in
a 110 year old brownstone which contains many original details. It is located near Prospect Park in the historic Park
Slope section of Brooklyn. However, the reason the house contains the details is that when we bought it, nothing was
done--including finding active gas lines for the lights--matter of fact we have deleted such words as done, finished, completed
from our vocabulary! We do know that there was a great dark green paint salesperson in Brooklyn since that color
paint was all over the place.
Jane (a Long Islander) graduated from Cincinnati and got her master's
at Columbia. She just retired as a Special Ed teacher and has redirected our focus on pray tell "finishing"
our house.
Look forward to seeing y'all.
Best,
--Jerry
