Joe
and I were married shortly after I graduated from Milne. We raised two sons: Christopher, who is
the manager of an environmental testing lab, and Ian, who is an electrician. We have 3 grandchildren, two
boys and a girl, ages 16, 14, and 11.
I went back to school and earned a computer science degree from Hudson Valley
Community College in 1975. My last semester, I worked as an intern at the State University of New York
System Administration’s computer center. The following September, I was hired and continued to work there for the next
28 years, as a programmer/analyst, project manager and systems analyst. Never thought I would stay with
the State University System for so long, but it was a great place to work and to attend school.
I developed systems
for the Office of Institutional Research to keep track of enrollment, degrees granted, and the academic programs at all 64
campuses in the SUNY System. Even today, you can still use the data warehouse and WEB application I developed
to locate SUNY’s academic programs and to see the enrollment and number of degrees granted over the years. www.suny.edu/APIS
My husband and I are now retired from the State of New York. He
worked in the computer center at the Office of the State Comptroller.
We now lead a very low-tech life.
We moved to rural Schoharie county where we are active in the community. I served on the consistory
of the Schoharie Reformed Church for 3 years. I currently volunteer at the Iroquois Indian Museum and at
the Office of the Aging, as a volunteer driver. My husband is in great demand for the music he plays, his
knowledge of history and the crafts he makes (canes, pens, knives, pocket watches).
We participate in Revolutionary
War reenactments, as sutlers (storekeepers), at Fort Ticonderoga, Fort Niagara, Crown Point, and many other places.
We enjoy driving our 1930 Plymouth hot rod to area car shows during the summer. My favorite pastimes
are quilting, gardening, bicycling, walking and seeing new places.
